Recovery of concentrated sulphuric acid from process liquor. Plant consists of ultrafiltration (UF) followed by four-stage nanofiltration (NF).
BMS Engineers were responsible for:
-Management of pilot plant trials
-Detailed plant design
-Installation and commissioning
-Operator training
-Remote plant monitoring
The ARP achieved:
-Average daily acid recovery = 56%
-Peak daily acid recovery = 79%
-Neutralising chemicals reduction = 55%
Payback period of less than 6 months.
Langer Heinrich Bicarbonate Recovery Plant
Year: 2014 – present
Client: Paladin Energy
Country: Namibia
Recovery of sodium bicarbonate from concentrated uranium eluate. Plant consists of ultrafiltration (UF) followed by three-stage nanofiltration (NF).
BMS Engineers were responsible for:
– Management of pilot plant trials
– Detailed plant design
– Installation and commissioning
– Operator training
– Remote plant monitoring
Operation of the BRP brought with it significant cost savings for both fresh sodium bicarbonate and neutralisation chemical reagents.
The BRP also significantly reduced the consumption of water: a precious and costly resource in the African desert.

Bannerman Etango Acid Recovery Plant

Recovery of sulphuric acid from uranium process liquor by a multistage ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF) plant.
BMS Engineers have been involved since the conceptual phase. Responsibilities have included:

– Options studies
– Detailed plant design

Uranext Amsul Recovery Test Rig

Conceptual testwork campaign with customised Batch Test Rig (BTR) to assess the suitability of NF membranes to recover ammonium sulphate from spent process liquor.
BMS Engineers responsibilities include:
– Design of customised test rig specific to this project

Kayelekera Water Treatment Plant

Modification works to the existing Acid Recovery Plant to treat site water run-off during care and maintenance period.
BMS Engineers were responsible for:
– Management of pilot plant trials
– Detailed design modifications
– Commissioning
The modification works allowed excess site water to be cleaned to minimum standards.
Langer Heinrich Carbonate Removal Plant

Rössing Acid Recovery Pilot Plant

Jaguar Operations Mine Dewatering Test Rig

On site testwork campaign at the Jaguar mine to assess the ability of NF and RO membranes to remove contaminants during pit dewatering operations.
BMS Engineers mobilised to site with the portable Batch Test Rig (BTR) to verify membrane performance in reducing contaminants down to levels safe for stock and human consumption.

Rare Earth Element / Acid Recovery Test Rig

Water Plant Technical Review and Optimisation Works

Technical review of an existing mine RO water plant to optimise performance and increase capacity.
BMS Engineers mobilised to site and identified and oversaw the implementation of numerous mechanical modifications to the fixed plant. A revised operational strategy was also developed which significantly reduced operating costs.

Rare Earth Element / Phosphoric Acid Recovery Test Rig

Conceptual testwork with the portable Batch Test Rig (BTR) to assess the suitability of NF membranes to recover phosphoric acid from a Rare Earth Element (REE) process liquor contaminated with thorium and uranium.
A variety of NF membranes were tested and assessed for individual performance of which the optimal results were used in options studies and cost models.
Longonjo Rare Earths Recovery Test Rig

BMS Engineers have been involved since the concept phase when they successfully demonstrated the ability of NF membranes to recover Rare Earth Elements (REE) from process liquor into a low-volume, high grade concentrate stream.
